Temporary exhibition

The Musée minéralogique de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue (Malartic)  is proud to present the travelling exhibition Nuns, Teachers and… Scientists!, a co-production of the Musée des Ursulines de Trois-Rivières and the Site historique Marguerite-Bourgeoys.

Through an immersive and dynamic scenography, this exhibition sheds light on a little-known chapter in the history of science in Quebec: the pioneering role of women’s religious communities in teaching scientific subjects as early as the 1830s. Botany, mineralogy, chemistry, astronomy—these disciplines were taught with rigor and passion by the Ursulines and the Sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame to their students.

Historical scientific objects, educational artifacts, herbaria, and interactive games make this exhibition an experience that is at once educational, inclusive, and participatory.
