The exhibition Gemstones or not? Scientific Inquiry leads the visitor to learn more about the raw minerals from which the cut stones are extracted, the tools of the gemologist and some rudiments to differentiate between true and false grems. The exhibition is composed of more than 200 specimens, minerals, multicolored gems, fossil woods, scientific instruments, interactive elements and a tactile terminal, all divided into 6 thematic zones. After his experiments, the visitor will be able to better differentiate a real gemstone from junk, discover the trades of gemologist, lapidary and gemologist appraiser in addition to discovering the properties of gemstones.

 

Open Sunday to Friday from 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00 - Free access for all.

What's new at the museum

This virtual exhibit was inspired by the book Malartic, a look at 75 years of history, created by the museum during the 75th anniversary of the municipality of Malartic in 2013.
